How RHE Curriculum Works

Rataj Home Education curriculum is organized around the Wheel of the Year—eight seasonal celebrations that create natural learning cycles aligned with the seasons.

The Wheel of the Year

Our school year follows the eight Sabbats, beginning at Lammas (August) and cycling through Mabon, Samhain, Yule, Imbolc, Ostara, Beltane, and Litha. Each season brings new themes, projects, and celebrations.

School Schedule

  • School Year: First Monday in August to last Friday in May
  • Instruction Days: Monday through Thursday
  • Flex Days: Fridays for field trips, make-up work, and enrichment
  • Winter Break: December 22 – January 2
  • Spring Break: Week before Easter/Ostara

Daily Rhythm

  • Hearth Circle: Daily morning gathering with candle, song, and gratitude
  • Main Lesson: 60-90 minute deep dive into the week's focus
  • Practice Time: Skills practice in reading, writing, and math
  • Story & Handwork: Read-alouds and creative projects

Assessment

The Rataj family requires 80% mastery before advancing to the next level. Assessment options include portfolios, narratives, traditional quizzes, and learning logs. Families using RHE may choose their own assessment approach.
