Litha: Integration & World Community
Summer Projects & Review
☀️ Summer Overview
At the summer solstice, we celebrate the longest day and the fullness of light. This optional summer unit invites students to integrate their learning through self-directed projects, exploration, and rest. The 6th Principle—the goal of world community—reminds us that learning happens everywhere, not just in formal lessons. Summer is a time to explore interests, serve others, and prepare for the year ahead.
🌻 Summer Philosophy
Summer learning should be joyful, self-directed, and restorative. This is not a time for intensive academics, but for:
- 🌿 Rest and renewal — recovering from the school year
- 🔍 Exploration — following curiosity without grades or deadlines
- 🤝 Connection — spending time with family, friends, and community
- 🌍 Service — contributing to the world community
- 📚 Preparation — gentle preview of 10th grade topics
Summer Activity Ideas
Choose activities that interest you! There's no required amount—do what brings you joy and growth.
- •Choose 2-3 books from the 10th grade reading list to get ahead
- •Read for pleasure: fantasy, sci-fi, historical fiction, or graphic novels
- •Listen to audiobooks during travel or downtime
- •Join a summer reading program at your local library
- •Start a book club with friends or family
📝 Optional Summer Project
For students who want a structured project, consider a Summer Passion Project:
- Choose a topic you're genuinely curious about
- Spend 2-4 weeks researching and exploring
- Create something to share: presentation, art piece, written work, video
- Present to family or save for the first week of 10th grade
Ideas: A topic from this year you want to explore deeper, a preview of 10th grade content, a personal interest, a community issue, or a creative project.
